Feeling Good – Setting Your Intention

Birds in the sky

Birds flying high you know how I feel. Sun in the sky you know how I feel. Breeze driftin on by, you know how I feel. It’s a new dawn. It’s a new day… And, I’m feeling good. -Lyrics for Feeling Good by Leslie Bricusse and Anthony Newley

When I teach my Yoga classes, I ask all my students to set their intention or their Sankulpa, before we begin our practice. A sankulpa is a statement formed from within our connection to our higher self.  It’s a statement to be honored above all, because it guides us towards our higher purpose, our best self, and helps to guide our choices on our path. But it’s more than just a statement – it’s multidimensional.

Your sankulpa could start simply with the intention,  I want to quit smoking.  But, your sankulpa, created as a positive statement in the present tense could be I’m so grateful that I’m smoke free. The statement requires no resolve or will power but a becoming or a knowing of who you really are, and evolving to the true sankulpa of –I am healthy, I am whole. It’s a realization that you already are it, a believing. And, so for awhile we walk side by side with this knowing of becoming, and being, at the same time. The longer we can remain in this state of oneness, the faster we are able to become one with our statement.  One way I find that really helps is to think of your statement with gratitude. Go ahead and think of it…, now, think of it with gratitude that it’s already true! -… powerful right?

So we continue walking on this path side by side, mindfully aware of our sankulpa, and mindfully at every opportunity acting inline with these goals. As we move forward we remain at peace, content, and forgiving when necessary, of our actions and of where we still currently are. Always, remembering and acknowledging however, that you are already healthy and whole.

Feel Good and Believe!

Counterpose For a Balanced Life

We bend so that we don’t break.  In yoga we do counterposes to balance out our bodies. If we twist to the right, we twist to the left. If we bend forward, we counter with bending backward.  Most of us live busy lifestyles, we give to our work, our bosses, employees, or customers. At home we give to our families, parents, children, spouses, siblings, and friends. Some of us also try to remain happy and positive, by exuding joyfulness to the strangers we meet along the way. We bend so far one way however, we sometimes forget our most important self.

So remember to do your counterposes, bend the other way by taking care of you! Give to yourself so that you can continue to give to others. Fill yourself up with joy, and gratitude for all that you have. Feed your mind by reading, seeing, and feeling happy thoughts; and in your body by exercising and eating right. Stay completely healthy for yourself first, and for those around you.  It’s the most unselfish thing you can do – taking care of you.

Deserving Soul

The entrance to the door of the sanctuary, is inside of you… Rumi

There are times throughout are life that we may want to run away from our lives. Escaping to some sort of sanctuary, where you’re safe, loved, nurtured, and cherish for the tired soul that you feel, you are. You may be fortunate enough to have the means to take a trip to an exotic location, the ability to visit with someone you love for a time, or where ever it is that you feel would be sanctuary.  The problem is, that it only works for a moment, and not for the long term.

Like Rumi, I’m here to tell you that “The Sanctuary” that you’re looking for, IS inside of you. If you’re not feeling it, then that should be your main goal, to get yourself to that place.  Take care of yourself! Love, Nurture, and Cherish the deserving soul that you are! Do what you feel you need to do to get you to that point. If you need it, go to that other sanctuary, and let some time pass in your healing.  It may have taken you a long time to get where you are.  It may take a while to get to where you need to go. But eventually, and hopefully sooner than later, you will find the peace from within.  Go inward, sit still when you can, meditate or just keep your thoughts positive. Remember everything, no matter how small, that you’re grateful for in your life.  Exercise, move your body, stretch.  Start feeling yourself strong, and healthy, inside and out.

Start at whatever point you can, no matter how small, and take care of yourself!  I can’t think of a more deserving soul than you… 😉
