Woodstock – 3 Days of Peace and Music

WoodstockPoster

I am not exactly sure what the Tipping Point was that allowed a peaceful event to take place at Woodstock. It was one of the most tumultuous times of the 1960’s, and was coupled with the fact that so many things went wrong… they had a shortage of food and facilities, a soaking rain, with an unexpectedly excessive amount of people, and a lack of organization for the peaceful chaos that ensued.  This seemed to be the perfect ingredients for some sort of helter skelter, but it did not happen… why?  Was it just something that the collective majority desired and envisioned?  Was it just the fact that the focus was on Peace and Music?    What made this event different than other events that took place at the same time?   I am not sure what the answers are, but I do know that it happened, and it is proof that peace is possible in times of chaos!

So let us remember on this and every Anniversary of Woodstock that we have proof that we can have peace now, in whatever we are personally and collectively going through…

Gross National Happiness

The first place that I would like to travel to is the country of Bhutan.  Bhutan is a country that is located in the Eastern Himalayas, and I believe that it would be the perfect place for me to start my journey bringing me more peace and inspiration in their beautiful country.  The true purpose of the trip however, would be for me to study their Gross National Happiness (GNH), a term which was coined by a former King of Bhutan.  The GNH looks at the well being and happiness of the citizens of the country and, in general, came about when the King decided to build an economy that was not just based on economic growth, but would grow in unison with spiritual development.  Bhutan is the only country in the world to measure its wellbeing by Gross National Happiness vs Gross National Product, and the country has ten ministries that are working together toward this goal.

Bhutan does so many things right that it may take several blogs to tell you what I think that I know about them, and then again after, or during my journey to tell you what I know for sure.

Making a Difference – One Person Can!

TOMS Shoes was created by Blake Mycoskie.  One man who wanted to make a difference!  He created a company with the sole purpose of putting shoes on the feet of children in need, and he succeeded!

TOMS stands for shoes for tomorrow.  On my quest, my goal is to learn and bring to you information so that all of us will have a better tomorrow.  I am not sure how I am going to do this yet… but I just keep taking one step forward, knowing that some how it is all going to come together.  In the spirit of Blake and TOMS, I will need to figure out a way to give back with more than just my word, but for now that is a start.    In fact, we all can make a difference starting today with just a kind word, a helping hand, or maybe with the purchase of a pair of shoes from TOMS!

Thanks for inspiring us Blake!  Cheers to you!  http://www.tomsshoes.com/
