Gift – Opportunity?

So many times we do not see the gift or the potential opportunity.  I read or heard of a test done once where two subjects were sent into a coffee shop, everything was staged the same, and all the other patrons were actors playing a specific role.  When asked about the experience the first subject said that nothing notable had happened.  When the second subject was asked they said that it was a great experience, that right when they walked in they found a five dollar bill, then he sat next to a man at the counter who was really interesting and possibly had some contacts that could help him in business.  Opportunities missed by the first subject…possibly?

A friend of mine was complaining about some tenants of hers.  How she had given them a chance and they had blown it, as she was talking  I starting thinking about opportunities that I felt that she had blown, and then about opportunities that I had blown as well.  In hindsight we always question ourselves, that is if we notice the missed opportunities, but sometimes we choose to not follow that opportunity path. May be because it does not feel right to us or it is not the direction that we want to take.  So then is it really an opportunity or just a different direction?

The Secret – Inspiration- Friends

I have a friend named Shelley, and her enthusiasm spills out from her!  You just really enjoy being around her or even just talking on the phone to her, because her positive energy just overflows.  She makes things happen too!  She is able to manifest that which she wants, and she has been a great source of inspiration to me.

Shelley and her family recently bought a big beautiful home.  Talking to her a few weeks after purchasing her home she says to me.  “I love my home! Even while I am on my hands and knees scrubbing the floor I am thinking of how grateful I am to have this home, and how I am enjoying scrubbing this floor.”

My friend is also an artist, she is new in town, and she wanted to get the word out about her work.  I told her about wanting to start a blog and we have been brain storming ever since. I worked toward starting my blog and writing, and she decided to contact the news paper, and the next thing you know she becomes the featured artist. In the past when they have featured an artist it has been a few paragraphs and possibly a single black and white photo.  Her article becomes a half page with many colored photographs.  As a result of this article she gets commissioned to create a piece of art for a client.  In the mean time she is dropping off her children at school when the art teacher notices her signage on her van.  She is then brought in to teach the children her style of art.  Then, she decides that she is going to submit a design for the local city celebrations poster.  This celebration has been going on for over 25 years and is a three day event that brings in very large crowds… and yes you guessed it she is picked.  Her design wins and she will be feature and celebrated through out this event.  She will be at all of the kick off parties, the featured events, and have a signing booth during the celebration!  And… the story does not end there.  She then contacts a magazine that was interested in doing an article on her, to let them know that she that her art was chosen for this cities celebration and next thing you know she is getting an e-mail telling her that she is going to be featured in the next issue of the magazine!

All of this happened in about a period of three months.  Her secret I believe is that she knows what she wants.   She is truly living in the moment, is grateful for everything, and appreciates all that she has.  She radiates that spirit of enthusiasm. Then she puts her self out there.  Letting people know who she is and what she does.  Then magic seems to happen… Shelley creates the life that she wants!

I am learning from her. May be you can too! Just a thought!

Hope for a better tomorrow! Lesson learned!

I watched a documentary about Nick Drake, and I love, love, love, his music!  I was however saddened by the fact that he ended his life early.  How could he have known that some day his music would be understood, that his music would be rediscovered, and that he would finally reach the success that he so longed for?

I then subsequently watched a French Film from the 80’s.  This film followed the lives of four people.  One of the characters portrayed a married man with children.  He was a self taught man without a formal education, but with hard work had a job in management.  The company he was with merged with another company and his position was eliminated.  He was offered a position in another town, doing a job that was above his level of expertise. His wife would not move, but needing to support his family he took the job, and moved into an inexpensive apartment so that his income could go home to support his family.  Long story short, he had much stress with his home and job.  He was on the brink of total failure, when as a last ditch effort he had a meeting with two people who could possibly solve his problems.  The two of them however were also having there own personal problems that they were dealing with, and the meeting did not go well.  So the struggling man went back to his sad little place where he was residing.

The people who could have helped this man realized that they had been unnecessarily hard on him, and just a few hours later decided to reconsider, and called him.  That is when his body was found.  The film ended with darkness on the screen that then turned into a chocolate color.  Which then had a hint of green showing, which then turned into a splash of olive green, and it is at this point that you realize that the camera is zooming out and a image is coming into focus. It’s a leaf, a tree, a forest!  You think to yourself oh I get it!  We need to not just focus on one aspect of our lives because we might not see the forest through the trees.  We might not see the whole picture, and that is just it… when I thought that I got it all, that I was seeing the forest, the camera zoomed out more and what I saw was that forest was just a mural on a building.

So that is just it, when things are not going our way, we have to have hope and faith.  We can not focus on one dark screen.  When we do that we may be missing the larger picture, the larger picture of infinite possibilities!  We need to zoom out and look for the beauty and interesting things around us… so that we see that darkness is not the only thing around us, but it is actually just a small part of something bigger and better!
