The best thing one can do when it’s raining is to let it rain. ~Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

I’m taking a few days off to relax and rejuvenate. I’m on the East Coast of Florida… and it’s raining. When you take a trip to the beach you think of days and days of sunshine – bright – happy, fun, sun filled days. Then the unexpected rain storm comes, with a forecast of showers for the next five days. Panic or sadness may start to set in, because its not what you expected – life it like that, disappointed in not getting what you want. The reality is, that what you have instead, may be better, or at least, a different kind of good. For instance, on this rainy day at the beach; I didn’t have to worry about getting a sun burn. I walked endlessly without ever becoming over heated. And, the beach seemed to be my own private sanctuary, in an area of towering buildings.

On this walk, in the quiet of my own private beach I tilted my face to the sky, and drank in a deep breath of fresh saltwater air. I took a moment to feel the tiny drops of cool rain. I felt so alive, calm, peaceful, and yet invigorated by the moment. It was just the result I was hoping for, from my time on the beach.

“I am sure it is a great mistake always to know enough to go in when it rains. One may keep snug and dry by such knowledge, but one misses a world of loveliness.” ~Adeline Knapp

Every day has its beauty – find the loveliness of your world…

Just a thought…

“‘Know thy self’ may not be the best; A pinch of self-delusion it turns out is an important ingredient in the happiness recipe.” – Eric Weiner quote via twitter@bmccall17

Once upon a time a friend of mine posted on her facebook page, “Fairy tales don’t exist…reality does…” Which of course prompted me (Goldilocks) to post; “I believe”. And yes, I have wondered if I’ve become a little delusional… I did do some deep soul searching, and I have been looking for, finding, and then spewing positive “self help” information and ideas, all of which has made me happier, and I hope, has helped you too! However, I think the key ingredient for me, was to put myself in a reality that was different from the one that I was living… so call me delusional in my fairy tale world, I don’t care, because – it works – I’m happy.

Wishing that you create your own happy fairy tale reality, where nothing is too good to come true.

Just a thought…

With love for you and your dreams,

I think we spend too much time thinking about what another person is thinking – what’s their motive, where are they going, how do I fit in? Unfortunately I found most people either to be very self absorbed, where everything is about them, and they take, take, take; or they are givers who are self sacrificing and never thinking of themselves.

Deep in thought and introspection, I realized why this is… I’m a giver, and I’ve given with my whole heart and soul, which I always thought was a good thing. I prided myself on my generosity and patted myself on the back because of it. Feeling good and super human, I gave, gave, gave, until I had nothing left to give. My epiphany was, as a selfless giver, who else was I going to find and attract… a taker needs a giver – a giver needs a taker.

As Goldilocks wandering out in the woods, searching to find her “just right” place, home, food, chair, bed, life, etc. I realized that it’s not about them, it’s about me. Why didn’t I love myself enough to think about what is best for me? What was it that I wanted? It didn’t matter what they were thinking or what their motives were, I couldn’t control them, I only could control me.

As I started taking care of myself, I became happy again, and started attracting great people. People who are both givers and takers, as in most things, what is usually best or “just right”, is somewhere in the middle.

It’s good to give, but it’s also good to receive – not taking or giving, too much or too little.

Just a thought…

Today TOMS shoes is asking people to go one day without shoes to spread the awareness of the impact of a pair of shoes on a persons life. For those of you who don’t know, TOMS donates one pair of shoes for every pair purchased to children in need around the world. (Thank you TOMS for what you do!)

I was on my Twitter account when the following question came from TOMS

TOMSshoes Tell us how your barefoot day is going! What have u realized is #hardwithoutshoes?

My response was instant

GoldilocksBlog @TOMSshoes My feet are cold…

I caught myself instantly, which inspired this blog. My response should have been – My feet are cold…, but I’m grateful for the many shoes in my closet.

Our ultimate goal in living our perfect lives is to be happy. So shouldn’t we look for happiness in every situation. Don’t we usually find what we are looking for?

This morning I wrote on my Twitter account; “today is going to be a great day!” I have been feeling like that a lot lately…, that somehow everything is going to be okay – better than okay! I feel joyful, and I have a sense of peace and calm about me. I am happy that I am creating my life, and I love what I am doing!

I realized that my circumstances should not control me. That I control me, and I am happier and healthier because of it. I stated that today is going to be a great day, and, it is. I woke up early and saw my beautiful daughter, went to “walk and talk” with a friend, started writing, and now – I just won a smoothie from Earth Fare! They are all just simple little things, but they all have brought me joy!

Earth Fare is our local Healthy Supermarket here in, Asheville NC, that has expanded into four states, and now has 17 stores and counting. (Yea – more jobs!) When you walk into an Earth Fare you feel the difference compared to other supermarkets, and you see the difference in their products, in their employees, and in their decor. It’s a sense of quality, cleanliness, and comfort. A place where you might want to hang out at, and actually can. I am new to Twitter and Facebook for that matter, but when Earth Fare posted on the their Twitter account that the next person to respond to them would win a free smoothie, I thought for a split second, “that’s silly”, “I will never win”, “I don’t want to look goofy trying for something and failing”, and, it’s just a smoothie. Then I thought – no this is just fun, and I tweeted back, and won! Imagine what we do with our larger decisions… and look at the good it has done! It has brought me joy, Goldilocks Blog was posted on their Twitter Page and Earth Fare gets a blog post inspired by them. Just by giving me a smoothie, and they are getting back at least double their investment, since this post will forever be out here in cyber world:)

So in my very unusually long and round about way…,my thought for today is this – may be the answer to one of life’s questions is, to just do things in a certain way. To claim the way you want your life. Fun, Happy, with Quality, Cleanliness and Comfort.

Just a thought…

Every morning I write a paragraph of all of things that I am grateful for, and for the feeling of having everything that I want. I have been doing this for about a year. Slowly I noticed that I have made some changes, and that I do have the life now that I want. I envisioned being happy. Having a great love. The discipline to exercise more. A great social life, and time to spend with my family and friends. Traveling more, and of loving the work that I do. And, I am living that life. I am writing, which is the work that I want to do. I am traveling and have been to California twice, Maine, North Carolina and Florida. I am making plans for more travel as soon as I get all my affairs in order. I realize that I do have people around me that love me, and my relationships have gotten stronger. In my quest to be healthier, and to spend more time in nature, and I am walking three days a week with a friend and then going on a long hike on Saturdays with my daughter exploring different places every week. I realized that I am living the life that I want already. It may not be as glamourous as I had imagined in my mine, yet, but, I am doing all the things that I wanted to do. I have peace in my mind when I go to bed, and I am happy now. I am grateful for the roof over my head, and the warm bed that I sleep in. I have a deep belief that I will continue to have all that I want, and my life will only get better.

Take a deep breath, look around – appreciate what you have…

The art of being happy lies in the power of extracting happiness from common things.

–Henry Ward Beecher

Last night I finished Eric Weiners book - The Geography of Bliss, One Grump’s Search for the Happiest Places in the World. I have to say that I know longer feel the need to travel to the happiest places in the world, even though I still want to. I think I finally really get it. Happiness is within us. It is not outside of us. Thats why poor people can be happy and the wealthy can be miserable. We really do create own joy and misery in our minds and hearts. It is what we perceive.

The other day when I was down, and I doing the “poor me” thing to my mother. She said, “Today you are fine, don’t worry about tomorrow.” Then she changed the subject. I immediately became defensive and wanted to argue with her about all the reasons why I should be miserable. But, before I spoke, a thought popped into my head, may be it’s all of my self help talk; It said to me, “Do you really want to be right this time?” “Do you want to be miserable?” “Do you want to argue that you are?” So I didn’t say anything to her, I don’t want to be miserable, and I dont want to be right that I am, and as I let her ramble on about nothing. I thought about what she said before. Right now at this very moment – I am fine.

So I am focusing on all of the things that I have to be grateful for right now. It is surprising how big a list that you can make when you are looking for it. And, if you are grateful, how can you not be happy!

Year’s Resolutions, isn’t it just another name for self-improvement, or self-help? I want us to go beyond the losing weight, saving money, or any other top New Year’s Resolution. I want us to be happy, and doesn’t being happy encompasses many things. If we were truly happy, wouldn’t it be easier to lose New weight, or to stop smoking etc. I know when I am happy I seem to be more productive. I get more tasks accomplished in one day. Which includes exercising, being proactive in my goals, and being more “there” with my family. We tend to live larger!

To be happy we need to connect with our inner bliss our inner purpose. When we connect to that which we know is the right path, the right direction, the right goal or dream… we feel that inner bliss. We feel love.

If you do not already know…keep asking yourself this question; What does my perfect life look like, In all directions? If you have your answer and all ready know your true essence and purpose, keep directing your life in that direction. Your happiness will bring all that you want, and then some… Just a thought!
